Volunteer Opportunities
Checkout Specialist and Assistant
Create a positive client experience by communicating courteously and professionally with clients while distributing through distribution windows. Volunteers should also be able to lift 5 pounds repeatedly over a two-hour or three hour shift and be comfortable using a touchscreen device. This activity generally occurs on Monday and Wednesday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday midday as well as Monday evenings.
Expeditor
This position involves walking, lifting, and using a pallet jack to assist at food distribution times. This volunteer will open boxes for food packers, clear cardboard from distribution area, load milk into cooler and assist in restocking at the end of the shift. This activity generally occurs on Monday and Wednesday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday midday as well as Monday evenings.
Package Mover
To create a positive client experience by efficiently moving groceries from a single packing roller line to three distribution windows. Adding groceries and assisting other volunteers as needed. This volunteer opportunity requires standing for an entire shift. This activity generally occurs on Monday and Wednesday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday midday as well as Monday evenings.
Packing Specialist
To create a positive client experience by packing grocery items in an efficient and consistent manner. Pack grocery items from pallets to grocery bags on a roller table line. This volunteer opportunity requires standing for your entire shift and generally occurs on Monday and Wednesday, mornings, Tuesday and Thursday midday as well as Monday evenings.
Donation Trucks
Our donation trucks run early in the morning Monday through Friday, picking up donated items. Upon return to St. Joe's, all items will be unloaded and moved to the appropriate area in distribution where other volunteers will prepare them for our clients.
This work is done both indoors and outdoors. You should be able to get into and out of the trucks, and repeatedly lift 50 pounds.
Truck volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Drivers will need a valid, current driver's license.
Delivery Driver
Deliver groceries to clients who don't have access to safe, reliable transportation. Delivery volunteers receive a list with client information prior to their shift. Using your vehicle, stop at St. Joe's to pick up groceries, then make 3-5 stops for delivery. The volunteer's mobile device is also used to anonymously contact the client upon arrival.
This activity requires a vehicle, valid driver's license, mobile device, and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
Training is provided. Contact the volunteer program manager for more information, or complete our volunteer application to begin the process.
Interviewing
Interview clients for the St. Joe's Food Program. This volunteer opportunity requires excellent communication skills with a wide variety of people and strong computer skills. An essential understanding of St. Joe's Food Program is required.
